Habitat: very dry rocky location on steep bank about 10 m above open field on Rt.44 beyond Kokutaigi Temple.

Description: Large irregular tree, 20 x 20 m. declinging with age. flowers pink, petals small, spreading. Young leaves very dark brown. Mature leaves medium green with little insect damage. Bark very rough on trunk and larger branches, that extend, near gorund, level. fruit very few. Approx. 100+ yrs.
