Habitat: Growing approx. 300 m from Rt. 236 on steep mt. bank partly shaded by other trees in open pine and broadleaf forest.

Description: Single stem tree with curved trunk, 12 x 8 m. branching 6 m. from gorund. flowers dark pink 4.5-5 cm. flat with overlapping petals. Young leaves bronze occuring with flowers Mature lvs., healthy with some insect damage. Bark very dark and rough. fruit few.
