Deciduous tree, wide-spreading habit; ca. 25' tall petals on inner side RHS red-purple group (65C), outer side of petals (65A) amaranth rose, petals emarginate, somewhat wavy margined; calyx green to purplish; stamens with white filaments at first, becoming red-purplish in age.

Original tree a seedling of unknown origin in West Potomac Park, near DC War Memorial, Washington,DC. This is a propagation of the original given to the USNA by Horace Wester.
