Deciduous tree, c. 15' tall; branches strongly ascending; vark lustrous dark brown; young loeaves bronze colored; buds deep pink; flowers at anthesis clear pink; calyx red.

This is an unusual hybrid seedling that involves P. sargentii. It was found originally near the Tidal Basin in Washington, DC by Horace Wester. It is a superior plant. This specimen is a propagation from the original which is now dead.
