Gentle slope, SE-facing hillside, soil heavy clay, bedrock Franciscan chert.
Dense bushy evergreen tree 6 m tall; fruit pale orange (will become brown and woody); cut twigs with a resinous odor. Spontaneous seedling ca 1960 from a tree ca 20 m away; has done well with no attention at all aside from occasional pruning, but grows much faster since a garden was put in in the next property (ca 3 m away). Pleasant and green all year, but but the woody fruit and sticky seeds are a nuisance - they stick to shoes and get tracked all over the garden and house. Seedlings often appear in cultivated beds, never in waste ground. Whittemore 02-001 is flowering specimens from the same tree.
